Week 4 Check-In

So, since like nobody's commenting on anything, I've made a personal decision we should have a check-in (again, which is pathetic.) to see who's paying attention to the blog.

Also, Week 5 starts tomorrow (and maybe finished based on how I'm feeling.) Here's the schedule for this week:

Alabama (3-1) @ San Antonio (1-3)
Louisville (3-1) @ Connecticut (1-3)
Quebec (1-3) @ Memphis (2-2)
Hawaii (2-2) @ Boise (2-2)
Lincoln (3-1) @ Las Vegas (2-2) - Game of the Week

So, I'll probably do a few tomorrow.

Alabama puts RBs on Trading Block

Press Conference from Hoover, Alabama: "Alright, with the All-Star break coming up and the Trade Deadline next week, the Gladiators have decided to put Michael Smith/84 and Roy Upchurch/82 (going to go up to 84 or 85 because he is 3rd in the league in rushing yards) on the block. We only want to trade one of them and would like a defensive tackle in return, Alabama also would be willing to trade Grady Jackson with one of the backs for a starting Defensive Tackle. Although he won't be able to play until the playoffs. We would also be more willing to trade Smith then Upchurch but we are willing to listen to any offers for both." Michael Smith is also a Kick Return Specialist although he does not currently return for Alabama. Upchurch was rated as one of the top Athletes coming into the draft, he can play Wide Receiver or Fullback.

Week 4 Games

Okay I'm getting a late start on Week 4 (not like anyone has noticed anyways) but the games will be simmed over the next 2 or 3 days. After this week we will head into Week 5 which means the week after is All-Star Week! This Year I figured, we will vote for starters out of the top two stat leaders on each conference. The rest are determined by stats, and we will vote for positions like QB, RB, WR, CB, K (maybe some more). I'll probably render a depth chart for the All-Star Teams soon, I was thinking only 2 QBs make a team and stuff like that, and at deeper positions we have reserve guys but only the #1 and #2 players on the team get assured playing time. And if someone gets hurt in the All-Star game they can be replaced, although the injuries would not affect the player for the regular season. It will also be the trade deadline week. Which I'll probably give some trade ideas that could go down or signings. Anyways I'll broadcast all of these games and write a recap like I've been doing. The Game of the Week is going to be Louisville @ Boise, and it will be simmed tommorow night or for Monday Night Football. Hopefully some more people will pay more attention and get involved since we are heading toward break, its been a ghost town here lately.

Las Vegas @ Hawai'i
LV-0-10-0-14-24
HAW-14-0-10-7-31

Hawai'i (2-2) survived a late comeback from Las Vegas (2-2). The Tropics started the game with 14 unanswered points, the 2nd Touchdown coming off of a Punt blocked (1st Ever I think) and returned for a Touchdown. But the 2nd Quarter belonged to the Aces, starting with a 17 yard Touchdown from backup Runningback Vernard Morency, and then a 35 yard Field Goal from Suisham. After the break the Tropics tried to distance their lead however with a big 87 yard Touchdown pass and a 38 yard Field Goal which came off a Morency fumble. The Tropics then extended the lead by 21 points in the 4th off another Brennan-Barnes Touchdown. Then the Aces found some life, Wilson hit Hall for a 19 yard Touchdown. Then the Aces recovered the onside kick (another first). This led to a very late Touchdown pass with 34 seconds left. It wasn't enough however, Hawai'i recovered the 2nd onside kick and was able to run the clock out.

PoTG: Freddie Barnes, 4 receptions for 146 yards and 2 TDs

Alabama @ Quebec
ALA-7-21-7-10-45
QUE-7-14-3-0-24

This fierce rivalry game started out a shootout but turned into a blowout late. Alabama (3-1), and Quebec (1-3) went back and forth on Touchdowns all throughout the first half. Michael Smith had a rushing touchdown in his return from injury, while Michael Vick threw for 2 Touchdown passes in the 2nd, the 4th touchdown that gave the Gladiators the lead at halftime was a 93 yard kickoff returned by Marcus Vick. Quebec was able to score 3 touchdowns in the 1st Half, 2 Touchdown passes from Plummer, and a rushing Touchdown for Jackson. Quebec was without McAllister for most of the 2nd Half, who was having his best game of the season with 80 rushing yards. Vick threw for another touchdown in the 2nd Half. Quebec was able to score off of a Field Goal, but the Gladiators ended the game with 10 unanswered points to extend the lead and give the team a key rivalry win. Duece McAllister was injured with a broken toe, he will be out 4 weeks. He will be able to return in Week 8. Alabama's Grady Jackson was injured with a dislocated ankle, he will be out 7 weeks. He will able to return for the 1st round of the playoffs.

San Antonio @ Lincoln
SA-0-7-7-7-21
LIN-7-7-3-10-27

The Lincoln Pioneers (3-1) have taken lead in the West after picking up a win over San Antonio (1-3). In a close game, Lincoln striked first with a Rhodes rushing touchdown. But Blount and the Nightmare struck back as he scored his own to tie the game. Cullpepper threw for a touchdown to take the lead into halftime. In the 2nd Half, San Antonio tied it up, but Vanderjagt was able to give the Pioneers a 3 point lead on a 36 yard Field Goal. In the 4th, it looked as if the Pioneers would run away with it after another Cullpepper touchdown, but San Antonio cut it within 3 points with a little over a minute left in the game. They could not recover the onside kick however and Lincoln would go on to put 3 more points on the board with 28 seconds left. San Antonio had a shot at winning but could not get down the field in time.

PoTG: Dante Cullpepper, 278 Total Yards (255 passing), 2 Touchdowns

CON-14-3-0-7-24
MEM-0-7-7-0-14

The Connecticut Navy (1-3) were able to pick up their first win of the season in a close game with the Memphis Kings (2-2). The game started with a fumble returned for a Touchdown except this time it wasn't the Kings defense that came up with the turnover. Then White hit Green later in the quarter. In the 2nd, the Navy extended their lead 17 points off of a 36 yard Field Goal from Plackemeir. The Kings were able to score a touchdown before the half however. In the 3rd Dixon ran 6 yards for his 2nd rushing Touchdown and cut the lead down to 3. But after some punts Connecticut sealed the deal in the 4th on a White-Engram Touchdown to pick up their first win.

Week 3 PoTW

So last week Memphis beat Alabama in thrilling fashion with the game going into not 1, not 2, but 3 overtimes, in the 3rd, Roy Upchurch fumbled and it was recovered by Defensive Tackle Rod Coleman who returned it 60 yards for the Game Winning Touchdown. He also had 5 Tackles, 1 of them a tackle for loss. He is the 2nd Defensive player to win this season, and the first Memphis King to ever win Player of the Week. Here is a snap shot of him running with the ball toward the endzone.

The Gladiators(2-1) got things started with a Leigh Tiffin 32 yard Field Goal. Then in the 2nd Quarter Memphis(2-1) striked back with a touchdown. In the 4th Gramatica hit a 28 yard Field Goal to tie it up with 1:49 left. Vick led the Gladiators down the field but they couldn't score before time ran out leading to Overtime. Memphis won the Overtime toss and chose Defense first, Upchurch had two big runs to get Alabama around the 10 and then Michael hit his brother Marcus in the endzone for a Touchdown. Then it only took the Kings two plays to get in the endzone, with Harrell finding Tyree. Then in the 2nd Overtime Harrell hit Harrison for a huge Touchdown pass. Led by 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Kenny Irons, the Grizzlies (2-0) were able to defeat the Pioneers (1-1) on Thursday night. After an Irons injury in the 1st quarter, Lincoln took the 7-0 lead on a Rhodes 4-yard touchdown rush. Irons would return to rush for his first touchdown early in the second which was followed by a Huston field goal as a result of a Culpepper fumble to give the Griz a 10-7 lead. Dante Culpepper connected with Dominic Rhodes from 4 yards out to finish the half up 14-10. The second half was all Boise, as a 66-yard Shaun King touchdown run and another Irons score got the lead out to 24-14. Culpepper led the Pioneers down the field one more time at the end of the game only to throw an interception on the 10 to seal the deal.

Memphis @ Hawaii
MEM-7-7-7-10-31
HAW-0-6-3-7-16

The Memphis Kings (1-1) were able to convert on many Hawaii (1-1) mistakes to pull out the 31-16 victory. The Tropics turnover woes began when the opening drive ended on the Memphis 9 after a Colt Brennan interception. A pair of Marvin Harrison touchdown receptions put the Kings up 14-0 early before Colt Brennan was able to get his 3rd rushing touchdown of the season but Shane Graham missed the extra point after missing a 51-yard field goal earlier. The Tropics were able to get a stop at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, but stalled on the Memphis 6 and had to settle for a 23-yard field goal bringing it to 14-9. After a Martin Gramatica missed field goal, the Tropics were not able to convert on the good field position, throwing an interception that led to a D. Dickerson 40-yard touchdown reception putting the Kings up 21-9 at the end of 3. Freddie Barnes scored his first career pro football touchdown on a 94-yard kickoff return to begin the 4th quarter and give the Tropics some life. But an Andre Dixon touchdown put the Kings back up by 12 with 2:31 to go in the game before Colt Brennan was intercepted for a third time in the game, sealing the deal before the Kings tacked on a 28-yard field goal with :31 left.

POTG: Graham Harrell - 3 Passing TDs, 326 Passing Yards

After a boring first quarter, the Aces got on the board first when Wilson and Hall connected for a 5-yard touchdown before the Nightmare responded with a 41-yard field goal to make it 7-3. A Roscoe Parrish 59-yard touchdown return put the Aces up 14-3 right before the half. A Kevin Jones 1-yard touchdown run gave the Aces a commanding 21-3 lead early in the 3rd before LeGarrette Blount punched one in from 4-yards out to cut the lead to 11. Bubba Franks then hooked up with John Parker Wilson for the 9-yard touchdown pass and the lead was back out to 18, effectively ending the scoring as the Aces pulled out a relatively easy victory in San Antonio.

The Polaires (1-1) survived a comeback by the Connecticut Navy (0-2) to hold on for the defending champions' first win of the season. The Navy started off the scoring on a 43-yard field goal before the Polaires answered with a touchdown pass from Jake Plummer to Joe Horn. Plummer would hook up with Horn again for another score early in the second to stretch the lead out to 14-3. Plackemeir would hit again, this time from 24-yards out to cut the lead down to 8 before Plummer would lead the Polaires down the field for a third touchdown pass of the game to get the lead back up to 15. The Polaires stalled on their first drive of the second half but pinned Connecticut on their own 3. Ahman Green couldn't get the ball out of the endzone, and the safety made the Quebec lead 23-6. Plummer would then throw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, this time to Deuce, to make the lead 24 with two and a half minutes still remaining in the 3rd. White would hit Green for a touchdown to start the 4th and the Navy would convert the 2 point conversion bringing the lead down to 16 and the lead was cut to 8 on a White to Cosby touchdown and a following 2 point conversion from the Navy. Out of timeouts, they had to onside kick, but the Polaires would prevail 30-22. Thursday Night (I'll Sim this one)
Lincoln (1-0) @ Boise (1-0)

Game of the Week (Friday)
Alabama (1-0) @ Louisville (1-0)

Friday/Saturday or Sunday ( I can sim one or two of these)
Quebec (0-1) @ Connecticut (0-1)
Memphis (0-1) @ Hawaii (1-0)
Las Vegas (0-1) @ San Antonio (0-1)

Also FS Justin Woodall of the Lincoln Pioneers is Week 1's Player of the Week. I'll wait to do the photoshop until Lincoln releases their uniforms. Bmac who is doing your logos and uniforms? Just wondering. Also Sizemore from now on let's do the Game of the Week on a seperate post as the Week Reports. That way we can have the link for it and you can do a more detailed Recap. Maybe try Youtube again? Since it worked pretty well for the Championship.

Week 1 Games Report

Let's keep all the games, scores, stats, and a brief recap in one post for the whole weeks games.

Quebec @ Lincoln (Globe Game in London)
QUE 0-7-3-6-16
LIN 0-14-14-13-41

Led by two kickoff returns for touchdowns, one for Justin Woodall and one for Brandon Lloyd, the Pioneers (1-0) kicked off their first year in Lincoln with a victory over the defending champion Polaires (0-1). Daunte Cullpepper completed 19 of 24 passes and two touchdowns in the win while Quebec's Jake Plummer threw costly interceptions. The Pioneers dominated the game throughout to pick up the franchise's first regular season victory ever and the first win in Lincoln.

POTG: Justin Woodall - 2 INT, 1 KRTD

San Antonio @ Hawaii
SAN 0-7-10-0-17
HAW 7-17-7-0-31

In the first game at the brand new Hawaiian Airlines Stadium at the Boardwalk, the Hawaii Tropics (1-0) led by new QB Colt Brennan, defeated their division rivals, the Nightmare (0-1). The Trops took an early lead, but were denied an early 14-0 lead on a goal line stand. Shane Graham had a 57-yard FG attempt blocked in the 2nd quarter, but on the next drive converted from 52. The Tropics scored twice in the final 1:03 before the half, as a SA fumble put the game out of reach early. The victory was a costly one though for the Tropics, as they have lost RB Ian Johnson to a broken wrist for the next 12 weeks. He would be able to return for MLF Championship 3 at the earliest.

POTG: Colt Brennan - 2 Passing TDs, 2 Rushing TDs

Connecticut @ Alabama
CON 0-7-14-14-35
ALA 14-14-7-7-42

The Gladiators (1-0) were able to get out to a quick 28-0 lead and hang on to get the 42-35 victory over the Navy (0-1) to open the season Friday night. Before the game, former Gladiator Darren Sproles had his jersey retired before the game and being the honorary coin flipper. The retired jersey can be seen here. After two Michael Vick touchdowns to put Alabama up 28-0, John Kitna led the Navy down the field to get a touchdown on the board before the half. After another Navy touchdown to start of the 2nd half, the lead was cut to 28-14. The Gladiators stretched the lead back out to 21 when Korean Robinson took the kickoff back 83-yards for the touchdown. After Connecticut QB Jon Kitna went down, former Hawaii Tropic Jason White led the Navy on a comeback and was able to cut the lead to 7 with 1:06 left in the game before the Gladiators recovered to onside kick to run out the clock. Alabama RB Michael Smith will be out until Week 4 with Elbow Bursitis and Connecticut QB Jon Kitna will be out until the MLF Championship with a broken collarbone.

POTG: Michael Vick - 3 Passing TDs, 1 Rushing TD

Boise @ Las Vegas
BOI 7-7-7-0-21
LV 7-3-0-6-16

Despite a 62 yard fumble returned for a touchdown to start the game, the Aces (0-1) weren't able to handle King and the Grizzlies (1-0). The Grizzlies answered with a Kenny Irons touchdown. Shaun Suisham made a 24 yard field goal with under a minute left in the 2nd to take a 10-7 lead for the Aces, but Shaun King led his Grizzlies down the field for a touchdown right before halftime, giving the Grizzlies a 14-10 halftime lead. Boise got a huge interception returned for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 21-10. The Aces were able to score late but failed a 2 point conversion. The Grizzlies ran out the clock to pick up the win in their season openers.

Louisville's new starting quarterback Jevan Snead out of Ole Miss led the Shockers (1-0) past the Kings (0-1) in a rivalry game to start the season. Martin Gramatica kicked a 23-yard field goal to start off the scoring in this wide open game before Snead threw his first MLF Touchdown on the next drive. The Kings got 3 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, 1 on a Pick 6 to go up 24-7 at the half and this game looked like it would be a blowout. The Shockers returned from the break a brand new team however, and Davenport and Snead touchdowns cut the lead to 3 by the end of the 3rd. Louisville was able to take the lead in the 4th and then a costly fumble for Memphis allowed the Shockers to stretch the lead out to 11. After a big kickoff return from Marvin Harrison, the Kings were able to cut the lead to 5 before failing the 2-point conversion. The Shockers got an insurance touchdown to take the lead 42-30, the final score.

Team Builder

Alright, I am back from the beach so I'm ready for the season haha, I know everyone else is ready for it too. I've already update Alabama and Hawai'i in team builder, next will be Quebec and Lincoln (Albuquerque), since they play first. Some things concerning that game, Lincoln has released a possible wordmark and color combo (hopefully they will swap in gold for green :P) so I can make them some generic under armor practice style uniforms on team builder until they reveal everything. Also how's the Globe Game logo coming Mykl? Whenever he gets done with it, I'll do like I did last year and just make a "team" with the Globe Game logo and Stadium, so Sizemore you'll have to download Quebec, Lincoln, and the Globe Game "team". That way the field will look good and it will really be a mutual style game.
